Care and Maintenance of your Canvas Tote Bag
Want to keep your new tote bag looking new and clean? Of course you do!
For casual care:
-
Washing
If you want to machine wash your canvas tote bag, turn bag inside-out and use a gentle cycle and mild detergent. Avoid hot water, chlorine, bleach, stain removers, detergents with lighteners, and fabric softeners. Let it air dry to avoid shrinkage.Â
A few pro-tips:
- Treat stains quickly: In the case of new stains, you should not hesitate to treat them immediately. The longer a stain remains untreated, the more difficult it will be to remove.
- For minor stains, use a damp cloth with mild soap and warm water. You can also use a laundry pen for more moderate stains. For mold, spray the area with white distilled vinegar, let it dry, and then scrub with a soft brush and a mixture of lemon, salt, and hot water.Â
- Avoid direct sunlight: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can fade and weaken the material. Therefore, store your canvas bag in a cool, dry place when it is not in use.
- Apply protective treatment: Regular application of a protective spray suitable for canvas can help protect the bag from water, oil and other potential contaminants. You can also use a non-toxic fabric wax like Otter Wax every few years to waterproof.
